Have you ever considered that the way you worship God the best might not be the same as the person who sits next to you in the pew? Some of us connect with God most genuinely in nature, some of us through song or art, some of us through tradition and ritual, some through quiet contemplation, and some through fervent action.

This summer I will be leading us through a Sermon Series and Book Study based on the book “Sacred Pathways: Nine Ways to Connect with God” by Gary Thomas. The series will begin on July 6 & 10 and continue through Labor Day weekend, with sermons based on scripture that relates Jesus and other biblical figures to each of the 9 spiritual temperaments detailed in the book. Discussion on each chapter will be offered at 5:30pm on Wednesdays (before Summer Midweek Worship), and on Sundays at about 10:15am (after worship during Coffee An’).

The book will be available in the church office during the week or the entryway on Sundays starting in mid-June. You are invited to make a $15 donation to cover the cost of your book by placing a check or cash in the provided box or to the church office.

Read below for more details on the “Sacred Pathways” book:
“Sacred Pathways” reveals nine distinct spiritual temperaments--and their strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies--to help you improve your spiritual life and deepen your personal walk with God.

In “Sacred Pathways,” Gary Thomas details nine spiritual temperaments and encourages you to investigate the ways you most naturally express yourself in your relationship with God. He encourages you to dig into the traits, strengths, and pitfalls in your devotional approach so you can eliminate the barriers that keep you locked into rigid methods of worship and praise.

Plus, as you begin to identify and understand your own temperament, you'll soon learn about the temperaments that aren't necessarily "you" but that may help you understand the spiritual tendencies of friends, family, and others around you. Whatever temperament or blend of temperaments best describes you, rest assured it's not by accident. It's by the design of a Creator who knew what he was doing when he made you according to his own unique intentions.

May this series bless us as we explore who we are and how we worship the God who created us as individuals and unites us as church.
